Why I travel
Where I grew up, the world stopped at the city line. Nobody I knew was taking a boat through a floating market or riding a train under Tokyo. I didn’t think those places were for people like me.
I travel because these were places never shown to me. Now I show them to you.
Every trip is a perspective shift I bring back home. The food, the people, the hospitality, and yes, how a city works when you roll through it in a chair. Circumstance is not destiny. Go anyway.
The latest trips
Thailand, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan this spring. Shanghai and Manila at the end of summer. Here is every stop, plus Vermont from last fall.
Bangkok + Phuket
Bangkok, Phuket, then back to Bangkok four months later. The hotels that got it right, the sidewalks that didn’t, and a crew at Bangkok Airways that asked how they could serve.
Taiwan
Might be the easiest city I’ve ever rolled through. A fully accessible metro, elevators everywhere, and a 37 second ride to the top of Taipei 101.
South Korea
Starfield Library, COEX, a hidden cafe up the hills, Yongsan after dark, and a wheelchair repair at a neighborhood hardware store.
Osaka · Kyoto · Nara
Three cities in one trip. Cooking my own yakiniku, Dotonbori after dark, the bowing deer at Todai-ji and the hills of Kiyomizu-dera. Take my word for it.
Japan
The Shinkansen from Osaka with a reserved seat, priority elevators on every platform, and a long talk about what it looks like when nobody has to fight for access.
China
A spontaneous trip on the 240 hour visa free rule. A country where nobody uses cash, temples, Yu Garden, The Bund at night and a cruise on the Huangpu River.
Philippines
Accessibility here isn’t top tier, but the hospitality is. Priority access at the National Museum, the sweetest mangoes I’ve ever had, and a real talk about choosing me.
United States · Fall 2025
Learning to mountain bike with the Kelly Brush Foundation. The bike fit, cone drills, berms, and riding the chairlift on day three. They always make it look easy on the internet.
